Leichardt
A once modest 1980s fire station in Leichhardt transforms into a refined contemporary home that pays respectful homage to its past.

Behind its unassuming facade, this Leichhardt residence reveals a blend of heritage character and modern restraint. The original facade of the 1980s fire station was carefully conserved and beautifully restored, allowing the home’s history to remain present while a contemporary transformation unfolds within.
Inside, the character of the former fire station is celebrated rather than concealed. High ceilings retain the original framing and exposed beams, creating crisp lines and generous volume throughout.

A new extension at the rear features full-height windows and minimalist finishes, creating a sense of calm precision, while natural timbers soften the overall palette and add warmth to the building’s industrial roots. The rear glazing opens to the backyard, forging a seamless indoor-outdoor connection.
This project stands as an elegant juxtaposition of eras, where the crispness of contemporary design meets the enduring character of a traditional structure, resulting in a home that feels both grounded in history and reimagined.
